How-to Classes, Workshops, Panel Discussions to Highlight Two-Day Event

(CINCINNATI, OHIO) On Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, Bellevue, Kentucky, will host NKY Restoration Weekend, northern Kentucky’s first-ever Restore it Right fair. The two-day event will coincide with the popular monthly Shop Bellevue/First Friday held in Bellevue along Fairfield Avenue.

On Friday from 6-9 pm, participants can meet renovation contractors and product representatives as they shop and dine along the 200 to 700 blocks of historic Fairfield Avenue, and learn about energy efficiency for older homes in a fun Scavenger Hunt.

On Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm, activities for all ages will be offered at Holy Trinity School at 235 Division Street in Bellevue. These will include over a dozen educational programs, expert panels and hands-on workshops from window restoration to energy assessments, painting techniques to plaster repair, and children and youth activities. Representatives of the Kentucky Heritage Council–the state historic preservation office—and local and statewide preservation groups will be on hand to talk about their programs.

Admission is free and lunch will be provided. Reservations are recommended (859.353.0209 x800) but not required.

“NKY Restoration Weekend is a great opportunity to learn to fix your wood windows, research who built your house, lower your heat bills, or inspire the next generation of renovators,” said Paul Muller, Cincinnati Preservation Association Executive Director. “With spring just weeks away, the timing couldn’t be better, and historic Bellevue’s the perfect location.”

NKY Restoration Weekend gives restorers from both sides of the Ohio River a chance to learn, explore, talk to craftspeople, win door prizes, and discover vibrant, beautiful Bellevue: one of Kentucky’s greatest preservation success stories. Look for updates at the event web site, www.nkyrestoration.com and www.facebook/NKY.Restoration.

Sponsors of NKY Restoration Weekend include American Chimney & Masonry, the City of Bellevue, the City of Covington, Kentucky Home Performance/GCEA, Home School, Tiburon Energy, Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies and Cincinnati Preservation Association

Thomas More College’s highest priority is ensuring that access to quality Catholic higher education remains affordable to all students who seek it, especially students who have invested money and time in the college’s parochial high school partners. The Parochial Promise represents the minimum financial aid package, as most students from parochial high schools qualify for additional institutional scholarship packages including the Chancellors, Honors, Leadership, Access and Departmental Scholarships, as well as, the Saints Award.

Thomas More College and Holy Trinity have been BEST (Business-Education Success Team) partners for many years and a Gold Standard partnership by the NKy Chamber of Commerce in 2010-2011. Some activities we’ve done together this year include our 3rd and 4th grade visiting Thomas More for a literacy class, chemistry demo, tour and lunch in November. sharing lunch at the Holy Trinity Junior High with TMC’s Psychology Club after a food drive for Holy Spirit Outreach, and HT’s choir singing at TMC’s Education Club’s Spring Fling in March.

On Monday, Jan. 30 of Catholic School’s Week, Thomas More provided ice cream for HT’s Student Appreciation Day. Accompanied by Dr.Barb Zahler, members of TMC’s education club and literacy class joined HT Elementary students for a classroom visit and lunch. Following lunch Mr. Jeff Finke, principal at Holy Trinity, officially recognized Thomas More College, BEST Partner, as a “Friend of Holy Trinity” by placing their name on a plaque that hangs in the cafeteria. “Holy Trinity thrives because of the support of our many friends in the community,” said Mr. Finke. “We are proud to recognize one of those friends today.”
